Sliding Glass Doors
by A1 Windows
Maximum glass, zero swing clearance. Sliding doors built for Georgia's climate with interlocking seals, Low-E glass, and smooth lifetime operation.
All the Glass. None of the Swing.
Sliding glass doors — sometimes called gliding doors — use panels that roll horizontally along a track rather than swinging in or out. One panel is fixed; the other glides along precision-engineered rollers. Because there's no arc of swing, you keep all the floor space on both sides of the opening, which matters a great deal in tighter rooms or on busy deck areas.
Where sliding doors really stand out is glass area. The panels are essentially floor-to-ceiling glass, which means more natural light than almost any other door style. For rooms that face a backyard, pool area, or deck, that view becomes part of the room itself.
The reputation of old sliding doors — stiff operation, drafty seals, corroded tracks — comes from 1980s and 1990s hardware. Modern sliding doors use stainless steel rollers, multi-point locking systems, and interlocking meeting rails that compress a weatherseal when closed. Done right, they operate smoothly for decades and seal as tightly as any hinged door.
Scale the opening to your space — from a standard 6-foot opening up to 12 feet or more.
The panels compress a weatherseal when closed — no drafts, no air leakage at the center.
Every installation includes a full-height sliding screen door — enjoy the breeze without the bugs.
Primary handle lock plus a floor bolt — two independent security points on every door.
Four Reasons Sliding Doors Make Sense
Maximum Natural Light
Floor-to-ceiling glass on both panels brings in far more light than any hinged door — or most windows — in the same wall space.
Space-Efficient Design
No swing arc means furniture stays where you want it. Works especially well in kitchens, dining rooms, and tight deck situations.
Energy-Efficient Glass
Double-pane Low-E glass blocks solar heat gain in summer while retaining conditioned air — all without darkening the view.
Better Security Than You Think
Modern sliding doors include multi-point locking handles and anti-lift pins — the panel can't be lifted out of the track from outside.
Why Glass Choice Matters in Atlanta's Heat
Low Solar Heat Gain Glass
A sliding door with the wrong glass package turns into a greenhouse in a Georgia summer. We spec Low-E glass with a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient under 0.25 — blocking the majority of radiant heat while keeping the view completely clear.
Weatherseals That Last in Humidity
Georgia's humidity destroys cheap foam weatherstripping within a few years. We use compression seals along the entire frame perimeter and an interlocking meeting rail that maintains a tight seal even as the house settles over time.
Track Drainage for Storm Season
Atlanta gets 52 inches of rain a year. Our sliding door frames include weep holes and a sloped track system that drains water out before it can intrude into the home — even during heavy summer storms.
